Mumbai woman biker killed while trying to avoid pothole, probe ordered

Following the death of a woman biker from Mumbai in Maharshtra's Palghar district due to potholes, Minister of Public Works Chandrakant Bacchu Patil assured that the state government has ordered an enquiry on the issue.

Chandrakant said, "All roads do not come under PWD. The government has ordered an enquiry, taking note of all incidents"

He further informed that the road repair can take place only after the monsoon season.

Meanwhile, the Congress strongly condemned the incident and demanded an investigation against the concerned authorities.

Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil told ANI, "It's an extremely unfortunate incident. We would be demanding Section-302 filed against the concerned officers for such grave negligence, which has become the cause of innocent deaths."

Patil said the incident reflected the amount of corruption existing in the system.

"This shows the amount of corruption existing in the system. This needs to be fixed", he said.

On Sunday, a 36-year-old biker from Mumbai's Bandra was killed on a pothole-ridden road from Dahanu to Jawahar Road in the state.

Jagruti died on the spot due to severe injuries.

The accident took place around 9 am when Jagruti along with two other women, was on a road trip to Dahanu.

Road contractor should be blacklisted: BJP

BJP MP Manda Vijay on Monday said road contractors of the area should be blacklisted.

Vijay told ANI, "The contractors of these roads should be blacklisted. The corporation of the area should effectively investigate the matter and take an action against the contractor."

Meanwhile, National Congress Party ( NCP) MP Vidya Chavan condemned the tragedy and commented on the increasing corruption in the state.

"The incident is highly condemnable. Blacklisted contractors should not be given contracts of roads and highways. Corruption in the state is extremely high", she said.
