A Pakistani national, claiming to be an operative of Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and seeking asylum in India, is being questioned by intelligence agencies after he was detained at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) airport in New Delhi. The suspect was held up in T3 on Friday morning, according to sources.

Intelligence sources said he approached the information desk in the international retail area around 6.15am and expressed willingness in passing on information.

The person has been identified as Muhammad Ahmad Sheikh Muhammad Rafiq, son of Sheikh Muhammad Rafiq. 39-year-old Rafiq (date of birth 9-07-1978) arrived from Dubai and was further bound for Kathmandu. During questioning, he is learnt to have revealed that he is connected to ISI but wants to defect to India. The intelligence officials have passed the information to the desk handling Pakistan issues.

The latest development comes days after Pakistan once again rejected India's request seeking consular access to alleged Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was sentenced to death by the Pakistani military court. New Delhi has said that if Jadhav's execution is carried out, India will give a befitting reply.
