IMD issues cyclone Ockhi alert; Kerala, TN, Lakshadweep brace for heavy rains

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday issued cyclone warning for parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, and Lakshadweep islands.

According to an IMD bulletin, parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu are expected to receive 'heavy to very heavy rainfall' over the next 24 hours. Similar rainfall conditions are predicted over Lakshadweep over next 48 hours. According to reports, the cyclonic storm 'Ockhi' over Comorin area moved west-northwestwards.

IMD warns of damage over southern districts of Kerala (Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Kollam,Pathanathitta, Thiruvananthapuram), and southern districts of Tamil Nadu (Kanyakumari, Tutukudi and Tirunelveli ). Fishermen have been advised to not venture into the sea during next 48 hours.
