Hyderabad will soon become the first city in the country to have a Robocop performing police duties. The police robot will mainly be used for commercial operations.

Telangana Information Technology Secretary Jayesh Ranjan unveiled the six-feet tall Robocop developed by city-based H-Bots Robotics. This robot will walk, recognise people, receive complaints and diffuse bombs, according to PSV Kisshhan, the founder of H-Bots Robotics. "The prototype will be ready by September. After a few months of trial, we hope to hand it over to the police department by the end of the year," he said. The robot will be indigenously constructed, unlike the world's first humanoid robot in Dubai, which was made in France.

"We are building capacity to produce ten such private police robots every year. These will serve as private security guards and can be used by hotels, hospitals and offices,” Kisshhan said. Each robot will cost about Rs 3 lakh.

The robo cop will be able to recognise objects which were at a particular location for a long time and keep the police control room informed. “Unlike the robot currently used in Dubai, which moves only on wheels, our robot can walk, recognise people, take complaints and detect and diffuse bombs,” Kisshhan said.

The IT Secretary inaugurated “Makers Leeway”, a high-end Robotics Lab for start-ups and robotics enthusiasts at Gachibowli in the city. He also unveiled 'H-Bots card' which will allow robotics researchers to use the research facilities in 40 such labs across India.
