Gujarat: BJP workers sip tea and listen to 'Maan Ki Baat' in 50,000 booths

In a show of strength of its booth-level strength, the BJP broadcasted Prime Minister Narendra Modi's monthly address to the nation 'Maan Ki Baat' in over 50,000 booths in poll-bound Gujarat.

The programme comes a day before the last date of filing nominations for the second phase of polls. Gujarat will go to polls on December 9 and 14.

While the BJP leaders sipped hot tea in cups, party workers sipped tea in disposable glasses on a breezy Sunday morning while listening to the prime minister.

The leaders also addressed the cadres after the broadcast of PM's speech was over.

The programme is seen as a reply to the “chai wala” meme by the Youth Congress.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who attended the programme in Morva Hadaf of Panchmahal, termed UPA's rule as the “most corrupt.”

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister of State Jitendra Singh were in Surat and Union Textiles Minister Smriti Irani was in Junagadh to be with party workers while BJP president Amit Shah attended the programme in Dariyapur of Ahmedabad.

On Saturday night, Shah had held marathon meetings with party leaders over finalising the candidates for remaining 46 seats for which candidates are yet to be announced. Several seats of Ahmedabad have not been announced and if sources are to be believed, former chief minister Anandiben Patel has been adamant that her supporters be given tickets.

The Congress too is yet to declare over 90 candidates. However, according to sources, the candidates have been informed over the phone about the list.

Gujarat has 182-member assembly.
