Governor Heptulla apprises Centre of situation in Manipur

The Union government on Tuesday touched base with Najma Heptulla, the governor of Manipur, to review the prevailing situation there.

Jitendra Singh, the union minister of state with independent charge of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) called on Heptulla, who is also the former vice president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, and shared with her the representations from different sections of the Northeastern society, who had expressed their concerns and even offered solutions and suggestions. 

Singh told the governor that the Centre was keeping a close watch on the recent developments and offering assistance to the state government.

On her part, Heptulla gave the union minister a resume of her interaction and discussion with different sections including the state government along with her assessment of the situation.

Manipur, where assembly elections are due in a few weeks, has faced blockade by the United Naga Council. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju as well as former army chief Dalbir Singh Suhag had visited the strife-torn state in the last couple of weeks.
