vanzara-dig-homecoming (File) Former IPS officer D.G. Vanzara (R) will return to a rousing welcome at the Ahmedabad International Airport on April 8, after nine years of exile
  • On April 2, a CBI special court ruled in favour of a bail modification filed by Vanzara after LeT terrorist David Headley revealed that Ishrat Jahen was an LeT operative.

With the special CBI court relaxing his bail condition by allowing him to enter and stay in Gujarat, former IPS officer and an accused in the Ishrat Jehan fake encounter case D.G. Vanzara is all set for a homecoming.

“God is Great. Satyamev Jayate,” says the encounter specialist.

Having spent eight years behind bars in judicial custody, Vanzara was granted bail in February last year on condition that he will not enter Gujarat. Since then, he had been staying in Mumbai.

On April 2, CBI special judge S.J. Raje ruled in favour of a bail modification Vanzara filed after LeT terrorist David Headley revealed that Jahen—who along with three others were gunned down on the outskirts of Ahmedabad on June 15, 2004—was an LeT operative.

This paved the way for the homecoming of the former DIG, who is also an accused in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh and Tulsi Prajapati fake encounter cases.

Under the “Z” category security bracket, Vanzarawill return to a rousing welcome at the Ahmedabad International Airport on April 8 and from there, he would go to Town Hall in Gandhinagar. There, he will be felicitated by his community members.

“I am coming home after nine years”, he said, quickly adding that he would “speak his mind” to the media after the programme at the Town Hall is over.

To welcome him, the Vanzara community has invited the famous Nasik band from Surat. Soon after his arrival, the former cop will get busy with his niece Manjeeta’s wedding, which is scheduled to be held on April 22. She is an ACP in Amedabad police.
