BJP's embarrassment 

The ruling BJP in Gujarat was in for an embarrassment on Wednesday when the National Inspection and Monitoring Committee suspended the sonography license of Dr. Hemant Bhatt. He is state BJP media convenor. Dr. Bhatt is also the president of Ahmedabad Obstetrics and Gynaecological Society. His Mamta Maternity and Nursing Home in Khadia, located in Walled City, was raided and license suspended for allegedly violating the PCPNDT Act. The medico said that it had nothing to do with the sex determination test and that his signature was missing in one form. In one of the forms, patient's delivery date was also missing, he added. Medical Health Officer of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Dr. Bhavin Solanki is on record to say that the sonography machine was sealed and Bhatt's license stands suspended until proven innocent in the court under the PCPNDT Act. The team from the AMC had assisted during the raid.

Mahatma Gandhi's school closed down

The famed Alfred High School of Rajkot where Mahatma Gandhi studied has closed down. All the 150 students of the school have been given school leaving certificates and will be accommodated in Karansinhji High School or some other school. The state government is to set up a museum at the place at an estimated cost of Rs. 12 crore. In 2016, the then Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nehra had said that the museum would be world class and would have a light and sound show. Tridip Suhrud, director of Sabarmati Ashram Trust, told THE WEEK that he had no comments. The school where Gandhiji studied had closed down in 1897. “This is not the building in which Mahatma Gandhi studied,” he said. In respect of Mahatma Gandhi, the school was later renamed Mahatma Gandhi School. 

Skyline of Ahmedabad to change

The skyline of Ahmedabad is all set to change with registrations for online auction of Sabarmati Riverfront plots having begun on Friday. Considered to be a brainchild of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his tenure as chief minister of Gujarat, the project is witnessing development on the banks of river Sabarmati. Last couple of years have seen several hundreds of people displaced and series of protests. The development includes gardens, jogging tracks, various amenities, including entertainment and business parks. In a first of its kind, plots will be auctioned online on June 21 and 22. While giving details, deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said that there would be two plots. Plot-I will be located near the Nehru Bridge and is of 1,280 square meter. The base rate would be Rs 7.86 lakh per square meter. There will be 18 floors and the cost of the plot will be Rs 100.64 crore. The plot-II will be near the Gandhi bridge and the area would be 2,240 square meter and the base rate would be Rs. 2.96 lakh per square meter. The height of the building will be 25 meters. Patel said that it would be for the first time in the country that real estate would be sold in a zone governed by volumetric bylaws.
