Buoyed by the court's verdict in the 2G case, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Friday launched an offensive on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP on the issue of corruption, and said that the entire architecture of the ruling dispensation is based on lies.

Rahul, who for the first time chaired a meeting of the Congress Working Committee in Delhi this evening in his capacity as party president, told reporters later that the verdict in the 2G case, acquitting all accused of corruption in allocation of 2G spectrum, is a vindication of the Congress' stand.

In the same breath, giving an indication on how the Congress planned to politically use the 2G verdict, Rahul went on the offensive against Modi and the BJP on the issue of corruption as also their credibility.

He questioned the prime minister's silence on allegations of corruption in the deal finalised for purchase of Rafale fighter jets from France as also on the allegation that the worth of the business of the son of BJP President Amit Shah grew astronomically since the party came to power.

“That's the truth. Our prime minister has nothing to say about it,” Rahul said.

In an effort to pick holes in the credibility of the prime minister and the BJP, he said their whole architecture is about lies.

“If you see the Modi model in Gujarat, it was a lie, clearly. When we went to Gujarat and spoke to the people of Gujarat, they said there is no model. What is going on is the stealing of resources of the people of Gujarat,” he said.

He said whether it is Modi's promise of putting Rs 15 lakh in the bank account of every Indian citizen or their allegations on 2G, it is all based on lies.

“Notebandi was a lie. Gabbar Singh Tax was a lie,” Rahul further said.

The 2G verdict as also the results of the assembly elections in Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh were discussed in the meeting.

The CWC also passed a resolution expressing its gratitude to the outgoing Congress president Sonia Gandhi, recalling her contribution to the party. “Smt. Sonia Gandhi led the Congress party through challenging times and difficult situations to safeguard and uphold the Congress ideology and commitment to an inclusive and constitutional democracy,” the resolution said.
