Family allege foul play in IAS officer's death

Mystery continues to shroud the death of Anurag Tiwari, a 2007 batch IAS officer, whose body was found in Lucknow on Wednesday morning. Suspicion has been raised as police were not able to determine whether it was murder or natural death, as the autopsy failed to give any concrete reason. The viscera was collected for further investigation. A chemical analysis will be done soon to ascertain the cause of death.

Family members suspect foul play as there are many unanswered questions. According to Sudha Tiwari, a relative, someone answered Anurag's mobile phone when she called his number after she got the news of his death. The call was disconnected when she asked the receiver to identify himself. Questions are also being raised about his missing second mobile. According to his brother Alok Tiwari, Tiwari used to carry his mobile with him always. But on the particular day, he had left it behind and gone for a walk. This, too, has raised suspicion as he was not fond of morning walks and was supposed to catch a flight at 10am.

Sudha Tiwari states that after completion of training in Mussorrie, Anurag was not interested in going back to Karnataka and had applied for three-month leave, which was rejected by the authorities. It is not clear why he wanted to take leave.

According to his brother, Tiwari had requested, about three months back, a change of cadre. Allegedly, during his tenure in food and civil supplies department, Tiwari had detected a scam of about Rs 2000 crore. Apparently, politicians and officials of the state were trying to quell the matter. Tiwari had sent a report to the CBI in this connection, his brother said.

Until these questions get an answer, the real cause of the death of this young officer will remain a mystery.
