The nation-wide uproar over the Afzal Guru event held on the campus of the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi has reached a new high with a batch of ex-servicemen threatening to return their degrees from the varsity over alleged anti-national activities there.

In a letter to the vice-chancellor of the university, ex-servicemen of June, 1978 batch of the National Defence Academy (NDA), have said that they are finding it difficult to be associated to the university and therefore they would return their degrees.

They also alleged that the university has become a hub of anti national activity. According to reports, anti-India slogans were shouted during the event held on Tuesday on the campus to commemorate the death anniversary of Afzal Guru, who was hanged in 2013 after being convicted in the Parliament attack case.

“We, the proud, patriotic ex-servicemen of the 54th NDA course find it difficult to be associated to a university which has become a hub of anti national activity, and would therefore be constrained to return our prized and well earned degrees to your esteemed institution if such activities are allowed to be conducted inside the University Campus,” the letter said.

Meanwhile, Kanhaiya Kumar, the students' union president was arrested on Friday on charges of sedition and criminal conspiracy. Several students have been detained in connection with the case.
