ASSEMBLY POLLS

'Election anthem' launched in Puducherry

Bihar-poll-vote Puducherry will go to poll on May 16

An 'election anthem' composed by a teacher of a government higher secondary school here, was launched to create awareness among voters on a free, fair and peaceful polling for the May 16 assembly elections.

While launching the anthem, election observer Prabhavati B. Akashi also set in motion a signature campaign to raise awareness and was the first signatory on the specially erected board.

She urged the people to "vote for a better Puducherry."

A team of students from a professional college sang the anthem during the programme, organised by the State Election Commission of Puducherry. The anthem in Tamil seeks to spread the message that a person's vote is precious and sacrosanct.

Composed by S. Chitra, a teacher of government higher secondary school in Karaikal District, the anthem will be played at various centres, an official added. Election Officer P. Jawahar and a host of officials were among those present.
