India Swine Flu

Around two dozen cases of swine flu have been reported from various parts of Madhya Pradesh. Some of the cases reported have been found to be positive and a 25-year-oldwoman died on Friday in Bhopal. Government has issued orders to reserve beds in hospitals for such cases and created isolation wards.

Director of Madhya Pradesh Health Services, Dr K.L. Sahu, said that nearly 22 cases have been reported across the state of suspected swine flu since July 1. He said isolation wards have been created in district hospitals and guidelines sent by the Centre have been forwarded.

According to reports, cases of suspected swine flu were reported from districts of Dhar, Gwalior, Morena, Raisen, Jabalpur and Mhow in Indore. Though health officials of the state are denying severity of such incidence, blood samples of eight patients have been sent to laboratory of Gwalior for confirmation. These reports are awaited.

According to local media reports, a patient from Gwalior was referred to higher medical centre for Delhi. Two patients in Gwalior are being kept in isolation ward of the government JH Hosiptal, while patients in Indore are also being kept in isolation ward of the government hospital.

Chief Medical and Health Officer of Indore, Dr H.N. Nayak, said, "We are constantly screening the patients for suspected virus while tablets of Tamiflu have been made available at all hospitals".

According to medical experts, the H1N1 swine flu gets activated during the onset of cold season. The rains in Madhya Pradesh have brought temperature considerably down and this triggered the growth of the virus. Meanwhile, the health directorate of the state has asked the field hospitals to keep an eye on the situation and ensure supply of required medicine.

Swine flu has claimed two lives in Madhya Pradesh since July with the latest in Bhopal on Friday.
