United States President Donald Trump is said to have imitated the accent of Prime Minister Narendra Modi while speaking about US policy in Afghanistan.

According to a news report that appeared in the Washington Post, the US President mimicked the Indian accent to imitate Prime Minister Modi, who in a meeting held last year, told him that “never has a country given so much away for so little in return,” referring to the United States campaign in Afghanistan.

The news report goes on to say that the Indian prime minister's statement was a proof that how Afghanistan is taking advantage of the United States.

The Washington Post report was about the US army's plans to increase the total force in Afghanistan by as many as 1,000 US troops. The report quoted unnamed senior administration officials who said the US President is known to affect an Indian accent when quoting the statement of PM Modi.

PM Modi and Trump do share cordial relations. The two are known to be communicating over the phone and on the social media. During Modi's visit to the US last year, President Trump had hosted him at the White House.

Besides, the US President had also described Modi as a "true friend".
