In yet another twist in the Jisha murder case, sole accused Ameerul Islam told Ernakulam Principal Sessions court that he was not the one responsible for the brutal rape and murder of the dalit law student, instead pinning the blame on his friend Anarul Islam. The court was considering the bail plea of the accused. Later, he told the mediapersons stationed outside the court that the police knew the location of his friend. Reports had earlier emerged that Ameerul Islam had confessed to the police of his involvement in the incident.

In the chargesheet submitted on September 17, the police had described Ameerul as a sexual deviant. The police had conducted six scientific tests, collected 75 material evidences, 125 documents and interviewed around 105 witnesses in the 1500 page chargesheet. He had been charged under sections like IPC 302, 376 and under the Prevention of Atrocities against SC/ST Act. The body of the victim had been discovered on April 28, with her private parts horribly mutilated, by her mother Rajeshwari at their Iringol residence in Perumbavoor. Ameerul Islam was nabbed mid June 2016. Blood stained sandals belong and the murder weapon were allegedly discovered from the scene of crime.
