Vasanth Paul became an internet sensation after his Facebook post detailing a rescue attempt went viral. He had, while on his way back from watching Kabali, apparently saved a woman from being gang-raped.
But, according to a report by NDTV, the city police claim that Paul, a photographer, was unable to direct them to the part of the city where the incident took place. They claim that he was drunk.
On Saturday Paul's Facebook post in which he stated that he had fought three men who tried to strangle him when he tried to stop them from raping a girl went viral. In the post he claimed that an auto driver saved him and the girl. He also posted graphic images of the injuries that he had sustained during the struggle. The post has been shared more than 35,000 times and has received 1,42,000 likes.
But when interrogated, Paul was not able to lead the police to the site where the alleged incident took place. He confessed that he was "intoxicated" which is why he did not wish to report the crime, K. Shankar, Additional Commissioner (South) informed. The taxi driver and the woman too were not traced.
