Despite currency crisis, KCR set to fullfil his vows

KCR Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrsekhar Rao

Demonetisation has not stopped Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrsekhar Rao from keeping his vows and spending crores. As the entire state is reeling under currency crisis, the chief minister will, by the end of this month, proceed with fulfilling his vows that he had taken during the Telangana statehood movement.

KCR had vowed that he would shower the gods with gold if Telangana statehood became a reality. The chief minister will now be presenting two necklaces to Lord Venkateswara Swamy and a nose stud to goddess Padmavathi Ammavaru at Tiruchanuru. On his return journey to Hyderabad, KCR will have a stop over at Vijayawada to present a nose stud to goddess Kanakadurga.

KCR had last visited Tirumala in 2001 just before he launched the pink party Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). While he has never visited the temple city after that, his family members have visited the shrine quite often. Post-bifurcation, this would be KCR's second visit to Andhra Pradesh. He had earlier attended the foundation stone laying ceremony of AP's capital city of Amaravati.

Since he wanted to keep his vows, KCR as CM has issued a GO which sanctioned funds for the gold ornaments for a plethora of gods. The endowments department have a Common Good Fund from which they sanctioned Rs 5.59 crore and out of which Rs 5 crore is to be used for the ornaments to be made for the Lord of the Seven Hills.

In October, the chief minister presented a 11.7kg gold crown worth over Rs 3 crore to Goddess Bhadrakali at Warangal on the occasion of Durga Navratri. In April, KCR had sent a chador to the Khwaja Moinuddin Chitti dargah in Ajmer, with a Nazarana of Rs 2.51 lakh.

A vaastu believer, KCR had conducted an 'Ayutha chandi maha yagam' to appease the gods on his 120-acre farmhouse at Erravalli village in Telangana's Medak district in December 2015 when the farmers in the state were committing suicide due to drought and agrarian crisis. The yagnam which cost the exchequer about Rs 5 to 7 crore had drawn severe flak from different corners.

His final vow is a golden mustache for Kuravi Veerabhadra Swamy which is still being readied and KCR would visit the temple on Shivaratri in February 2017.
