Seeking to provide clarity about Make in India and defence acquisition process, the department of defence production will get a new website on September 15, which would be launched by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar.

"The website will provide clarity about the role of department of defence production and the way it can help the Indian and foreign vendors to know and participate in the Make in India process in the defence sector," a defence ministry official said.

The portal will also provide information related to all policy and procedural issues relevant for the defence manufacturing industry, the officials said. The website would also provide details about the officers dealing with various aspects of defence production.

The department of defence production, which is a separate wing under the defence ministry, looks after the ordnance factory board, defence public sector undertakings, including Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and shipyards such as the Mazagon Dockyards Limited.

The portal would also provide information related to all policy and procedural issues relevant for defence manufacturing industry. It would also have the options for individual companies to seek clarifications or ask questions.

Secretary (defence production) Ashok Gupta has been a key player in pushing defence projects under the Make in India plan and also is negotiating with the US for co-production and co-development of technologies under the Defence Trade and Technology Initiative (DTTI).

The new portal would also have details of different units under the department and would offer information about the opportunities there.

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for helping disabled people, the portal would also have a braille script version.
