After a brief lull in dacoity related crimes in Uttar Pradesh following the killing of Shiv Kumar Patel, also known as Dadua, the state is witnessing an increase in the number of such crimes.

Dacoits, who used to target remote villages far away from police stations, are now striking posh localities in Lucknow, right under the nose of city police.

In Karori area adjoining Lucknow, more than 20 dacoits kept on looting houses for two hours, fired 80 rounds of gunshots and killed a 20-year-old youth Komal before making away with jewellery worth lakhs of rupees and cash. The crimes were committed barely half a kilometer away from the spot where heavy police combing was going on.

On December 25, 2017, the criminals entered into the house of one Vinod Yadav in the densely populated Chinhat area and stole Rs 3 lakh. A few months ago, in July 13, a gang of dacoits looted the house of an engineer and made away with lakhs of rupees.

In yet another daring crime, they struck South City area on July 11 at the house of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited chief supervisor Divendra Singh Negi. On May 30, there was another such crime committed in the posh Gomti Nagar locality.

Although there has been much hue and cry after each of these incidents, the police have been unable to make any progress into the investigation.
