Notorious criminal Aadu Antony was on Wednesday convicted for the murder of policeman Maniyan Pillai. The principle sessions court found Antony alias Antony Varghese guilty of murder and he will be sentenced on Friday.
The murder took place on June 25, 2012 night at the Paripally-Madathara Road where Pillai and ASI Joy were checking vehicles. Joy was grievously injured in Antony's attack and underwent treatment for a month. Antony escaped from the crime scene in a van and was arrested only in October 13, 2015 from Coimbatore-Palakkad border.
Antony was found guilty of murder (IPC 302), attempt to murder (307), forgery (471) and four other charges. He was acquitted of the charge of tampering with evidence. He was arrested in many theft cases previously.
Pillai's widow welcomed the verdict and said Antony should not be allowed out of the jail ever.
