CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP suspended from party

ritabrata-banerjee Banerjee has often courted controversy and been warned by the party.

Ritabrata Banerjee, the Rajya Sabha MP of the CPI (M), has been placed under suspension by the party’s state committee today.

Suryakanta Mishra, West Bengal state secretary of CPM and politburo member, said, “We have received a number of complaints against him based on which he has been placed under suspension for three months.”

Many party members had moved the party about his lavish lifestyle.

Last month, Banerjee courted controversy after he wrote to party members, who had opposed him, to sack him from the job. Banerjee was warned a couple of times.

A three-member committee led by politburo member Mohammed Salim would look into the allegations against Banerjee.

“The committee would recommend whether he would be sacked form the party or not. We have already removed him from the state committee,” said a leader of the party.

Banerjee was once very close to senior CPM leader Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who recommended to the party to send Banerjee to Rajya Sabha. He was elevated to the state committee of the party, and later, he was inducted into the central committee as a special invitee.

The other two leaders, who would conduct inquiry against Banerjee would be central committee members, Mridul De and Madan Ghosh.
