Cop killed, another injured in militant attack ahead of Rajnath's visit to Anantnag

Ahead of Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Anantnag, militants attacked a police party, killing one constable and injuring another.

The attack happened after a militant was killed by the security forces at Sopore, Baramulla in north Kashmir.

Police said motorcycle borne militants appeared near the Anantnag bus stand and fired at a police party. Two policemen sustained injuries in the incident and one of them, Constable Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir, succumbed to the injuries.

“Constable Imtiyaz martyred, one injured in the firing. Martyr left behind aged parents, sister and two brothers—one of them disabled,” tweeted J&K police.

After the attack, the area was sealed and searched to nab the culprits was launched.

Today's attack happened after violent clashes broke between police and protester who were protesting against the persecution of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.

The clashes left six policemen injured including two officers injured. A bullet-proof patrol vehicle of police was also set ablaze.

In the morning, a militant of Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in Sopore in an encounter with the police and Army's Rashtriya Rifles and CRPF.

The militant was identified as Shahid Ahmad Sheikh alias Shabir, district commander of Hizbul.
