'Construction of Ram mandir will start in 2018': VHP Joint Gen Sec

A national seminar on the “reawakening of the movement for the Ram janma bhoomi,” attended by over 500 delegates of various Hindu organisations across the country on Sept 15, queered the pitch for the early construction of “Bhavya Ram mandir” at the ‘Ram janmabhoomi’ in Ayodhya, and gave call for a renewed “aandolan” towards this end. No action plan was however discussed by any of the half a dozen speakers.

The seminar was organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), which announced plans for celebrating the 25th anniversary of the demolition of Babri mosque in a grand way on December 6. The celebrations will span for “a long time.”

“The government does not set the date for when the temple will be constructed, the society does that and tells the government to get it done by then, be it Modi or Yogi,” Dr Surendra Kumar Jain, the international joint general secretary of VHP said. He told a cheering crowd that the construction of the temple will start in 2018, and “we will get to see the temple that year.”

Jain asserted that it was not a movement of the VHP, but of the entire Hindu society. It had begun when Mughal emperor Babar demolished the temple and there have been 76 different movements without any let up, with 4 lakh martyrs so far and it would continue till the temple is built.

He pointed out that while the temple was already there at the disputed site, what was left was the construction of a “Bhavya Ram mandir”, a grand and auspicious temple of Lord Ram. “It will not be just a Ram mandir, but a Rashtramandir” Jain elaborated, adding that it will bridge the divides in society that started between Aryan and Dravidan, north and south, and will settle once for all, the questions of the country’s nationhood and our nationality.

Without naming Prime Minister Narendra Modi or the BJP, the VHP leader said that the “political change” in the country was the result of the “ambitions and desires of the Ram bhakts,” many of who were responsible for the change in leadership, be it an individual or a party. “That change was effected not by any individual or party, but because of the urgency of building the temple and protecting cows. The whole Hindu society is behind this political change” he added.

Jain was confident that the day the Ram temple is built “terrorism would go away, there would be no problem of the Rohingyas, not even that of the Bangladeshi refugees.”

Talking of December 6, Jain said it will give the Muslims of India an opportunity to free themselves from Babar and delink themselves from Pakistan, and urged them to celebrate it like Eid and not mourn like Muharram.

Earlier, Swami Raghavanand, chairman of the Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha said it was for the Parliament to pass a law, and urged the Hindu society not to leave it to the courts to decide. He favoured the idea of society putting pressure on the Parliament and political parties towards the urgent need of building the temple at Ayodhya.
