Congress losses battle in High Court after election drubbing

calcutta-high-court Calcutta High Court has turned down the Congress' appeal | Agencies

Calcutta High Court turned down the appeal of Indian National Congress to cancel the election of three out of seven municipalities of West Bengal, the result of which has been announced.

"The High Court will not interfere in the election process," said Justice D. Basak in his order.

Congress had requested the court to interfere alleging the election in Pujali, Domkal and Raigunj municipalities were rigged and bombs were hurled at polling stations.

The court observed that if Congress had any issues, it would have to follow the rules according to civic body election. The Congress will have to take up the matter with Commission first in this case.
