The Ahmedabad Crime Branch on January 18 filed a charge-sheet against Patel agitation leader Hardik Patel and three of his aides in connection with a second sedation case against them.
The charge-sheet has been filed in the Metropolitan Court even as the state government appears to be giving into the demands of Patel leaders to withdraw the cases against them. Minister and government spokesperson Nitin Patel said the government was getting advice from the home department about withdrawing the cases.
Patel leaders, however, seem to be in no mood to wind up the agitation. Though they have been demanding that cases against Patidars be withdrawn, their main demand remains the implementation of reservation for the Patidar community.
Sardar Patel Group’s Lalji Patel has warned that the government should be prepared for adverse results in the 2017 assembly elections if the demand for reservation is not met with and cases against Patels are not withdrawn.
Patels have been demanding reservation under OBC quota for more than six months now. A large number of people from Patidar community were booked under various sections of the IPC following incidents of violence after massive show of strength in Ahmedabad held on August 25, 2015.
The charge-sheet runs into nearly 27,000 pages . Three others against whom the chargesheets have been filed are Dinesh Bambhaniya, Ketan Patel and Chirag Patel. The accused have been charged under sections 124 (A) and 121 (A) and 120 (B) of the IPC.
Earlier, Surat Police had filed a charge-sheet against the Patel leader in another case of sedation .
Police said that it has also provided details of call interception records of Patel leaders. Forensic reports of their voice samples have been also submitted.
Two more aides of Hardik—Amrish Patel and Alpesh Patel—have been declared absconders.
