The centre will give out five senior research fellowships and five post-doctoral ones every year to facilitate cancer research.

Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, secretary, Minsitry of Health and director of the Indian Council for Medical Research said that natural systems of medicine had a holistic approach in comparison with allopathy. Research here is expected to focus on risk factors, specially dietary ones.

The cente will also aim to develop collaborations for cancer prevention and research and care using an integrated system of medicine with inputs from traditional systems as well as cutting edge of modern research.
