Central government's decision to reduce GST rates on 27 items and give relief to small and medium businesses is a victory for the people of India as the the government has begun to feel the heat of people's anger, said Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray on Oct 7.

"I want to make one thing clear today. The rising resentment among people has forced the government to go back and take these steps. This is a major achievement and Shiv Sena continues to be with the people of Maharashtra and India," said Thackeray.

Thackeray said that the government at the centre had been behaving in an arrogant manner and was not in a mood to listen to any suggestions or advice. “But now it seems that the government has begun to feel the heat of rising anger. Some may say that this has happened because of the elections in Gujarat. Whatever may be the case, the point is that the government has been forced to pay attention to people who were suffering,” stressed Uddhav Thackeray.

He also expressed surprise that a section of media was portraying yesterday's cut in GST as some sort of Diwali gift to people. He said this wasn't a gift, instead it is a climb down by government which is shaken because of the anger building among people.

Uddhav also said that he had always criticised things that he perceived to be anti-people and at the same time he had never hesitated to thank the government if it took certain good decisions.

He then went on to thank Devendra Fadnavis government for accepting the demands of nearly two lakh Anganwadi wokers who were on strike for more than a month in Maharashtra."I had asked our ministers to get this issue solved on a priority basis as lives of lakhs of children depend on the Anganwadi caretakers. Our ministers raised the issue in the cabinet and the chief minister readily accepted the long pending demand to give a salary hike to Anganwadi wokers," he said.

He also informed that Shiv Sena ministers had also taken up the issue of encroachment and hawkers near railway stations and on Foot Over Bridges at the railway stations."The government and railway authorities have taken action and hawkers have been removed from many places now," said Shiv Sena chief.
