Mumbai: Incidents of braid-chopping, have started occurring in Mumbai, too, even as reports of three women's hair being chopped off have come up. In the recent incidents, the braids of two females in the Bhaykhla area of Mumbai and of an 18-year-old girl in the Wadala area were chopped. In the second incident, a woman's hair in a Mumbai area were chopped off at Wednesday evening. The woman, named Anita, was combing her hair when she suddenly had a black out and a severe headache. Anita's aunt asked her to rest and when she started feeling better, she realised that her hair were chopped. She was rushed to the hospital and was discharged later. In the third incident, in the Agripada area, a 40-year-old woman's braid was chopped off. After so many incidents women have started engraving verses from Quran on the doors of their respective residences, and as a precaution have started wearing dupattas and caps. 

Plea for help

Hyderabad: The family of a woman, hailing from Hyderabad, who allegedly faced mental and sexual harassment from her employer in Saudi Arabia's Riyadh, has sought the help of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. The elder sister of Humera, Reshma, said, "My sister is often beaten and is not even given adequate food to eat. They used to confine my sister in a locked room for four to five days and threatened Humera with dire consequences if she tried to run away." The women went to Riyadh on July 23 believing the fake promises of the agent Sayeed that she would get an opportunity to do 'Umrah', which is to be done by Mulims at least once in their life. Feeling helpless, the sister first approached the local police station, but no action was taken against the agent.

Timely rescue

Leh: The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Wednesday saved an injured mountaineer from Mountain Stok Kangri in Leh. Reportedly, Pramesh Patel, 32, a resident of Pune was at an altitude of about 18,000 when he was rescued by the IAF. A timely response from the district administration and the Air Force chopper services helped to rescue Patel. The district administration received a message about an injured mountaineer at Stok Kangri. The Siachen Pioneers immediately readied two helicopters and picked up the casualty at 12:15 pm. The helicopters reached the spot within ten minutes. The formation was lead by Group Captain S. Ramesh and Flight Lieutenant Shubham Gautam as co-pilot. Speaking about the incident, Deputy Commissioner Prasanna Ramaswamy G. said, "The patient is stable and the administration is making arrangement to shift the patient immediately to Delhi for further treatment."

Army action lauded

Pulwama: Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Ashish Jhingan on Wednesday lauded the Indian Army over their joint operation in killing top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander Ayub Lelhari, asserting that the latter was involved in civilian killings and many bank robberies. Jhingan said, "The security forces knew about the terrorist whereabouts and movement, as we were tracking them from the time. According to our sources, we got to know that the terrorists are travelling in local transport with other commuters. The Jammu and Kashmir police along with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) made a team and formed a joint operation at all security check points to combat them as soon as possible". The officer further stated that Lelhari was involved in civilian killings and many bank robberies, and they have also recovered an AK47 rifle, magazine,ammunition from him. Earlier in the day, Ayub Lelhari was killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama. Hizbul Mujahideen's topmost commander in Kashmir, Mehmood Ghaznavi, was also killed in a gun fight that started on Saturday evening at Shopian. On August 5, three militants of the Lashkar module were killed at the Jamia Mohalla Amargarh in Sopore. 

PIL against Gorakhpur doctors

Allahabad: A Public Interest Litigation ( PIL) has been filed in the Allahabad High Court in connection with the Gorakhpur deaths seeking a judicial inquiry in the matter and restraining doctors of the hospital from private practice. This comes in line after Gorakhpur District Magistrate Rajeev Rautela in his report blamed firm Pushpa Sales, Principal R.K. Mishra, Anesthesia Department head Dr. Satish for the entire episode. Rautela's report has also held the Oxygen Purchasing Committee President responsible in the matter. Uttar Pradesh Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh, earlier in the day, stated that it's a clear case of criminal negligence, if someone dies due to disruption in oxygen supply, adding that when Gorakhpur tragedy probe result comes, culprits won't be spared. Tragedy continued to descend upon Gorakhpur's Baba Raghav Das Medical College hospital, as another child succumbed to encephalitis today, taking the death toll over 70 on Sunday. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has outrightly blamed Mishra, for laxity in performing his duty.

SC to hear bail plea

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday will hear former Lieutenant Colonel Shrikant Prasad Purohit's bail plea in the Malegaon blast case. A division bench of the apex court, headed by Justice R. K. Agrawal and also comprising Justice Mohan M. Shantanagoudar, decided to hear the bail plea. The Bombay High Court had earlier dismissed the bail plea of Lt. Col Purohit, who then moved the apex court challenging the Bombay High Court's order and seeking bail in the case. Besides Lt. Col Purohit, Sadhvi Pragya is also an accused in the Malegaon blast case. On September 2008, a blast at Malegaon killed six and injured 101 others.
