THREAT CALL

Bomb scare at Calcutta High Court

Panic gripped the Calcutta High Court and its premises after a telephoned bomb threat on Thursday afternoon. The office of registrar general received a call around 2 pm which said bombs had been planted in different chambers of the high court and that it would burst anytime.

The bomb scare created commotion as lawyers and judges started running out.

“It (threat call) specifically said bombs are lying in the chamber of a senior judge and other judges,” said senior advocate Tapan Roy.

A bomb squad, along with sniffer dogs, was sent to the spot after the court informed the Kolkata police headquarters at Lalbazar about the threat call. However, they couldn't trace anything suspicious even after a prolonged search.

Police assume that it might be a hoax call and are now trying to trace the caller.

“We have initiated a case and we will soon find out the culprit. However different chambers of the judges and senior advocates were made empty in order to do a heavy searching operation,” said an assistant commissioner of bomb squad of Kolkata police.
