With Rahul Gandhi seen dozing through a discussion on the Gujarat Dalit assault issue, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nalin Kohli on Thursday said it shows how serious the Congress vice president is about the issue.

“When the discussion on this very topic (Gujarat Dalit assault) was on, Rahul Gandhi was found napping in Parliament. Now, today he is undertaking a journey (to Una) on the same issue. How serious he is about the issue and what is his commitment, I think the country has already seen it,” Kohli said.

Rahul Gandhi was seen sleeping during Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s speech on the Gujarat Dalit assault issue in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.

Appealing the people of Kashmir that peace should return to the Valley, Kohli said, “Development is the need of the hour. The people of Jammu and Kashmir voted for a government overwhelmingly. These separatists are misguiding our youth, and their every attempt has to be foiled. So, we appeal for peace and we hope now Kashmir can return to normalcy and Jammu and Kashmir can also see the development that the aspirations of the people desire.”

Reacting to Enforcement Directorate (ED) notice to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh’s wife Pratibha, the BJP spokesperson said, “It’s not a political issue, it’s part of an ongoing investigation. They should join the investigation. It’s also an opportunity for them to bring their version to the table and I don’t see why it should be politicised.”

Commenting on an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) woman worker allegedly committing suicide, Kohli said, “As always the AAP will be making all sorts of excuses, there will be a cover up, because when it comes to anything else they have big accusations. They always ignore the issues at their end whether it is fake degrees, ministers being not in position on the basis of fake degrees; whether their own internal Lokpal, whether any kind of mechanism for improvement. And in this very unfortunate case where their own worker was levelling a charge nobody even heard it.”

Meanwhile, the Delhi government on Wednesday ordered a magisterial probe into the alleged suicide of Aam Aadmi Party woman activist in North Delhi. Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has asked North Delhi's district magistrate to investigate the matter.

The victim’s family claimed that she had gone into depression after her alleged molester, a party colleague, was released on bail.
