BJP receives 80.45 cr as donations in Gujarat; 89% come from corporates

The Bharatiya Janata Party received Rs 80.45 crore as donations in Gujarat between 2011-12 and 2015-16, followed by the Congress that got Rs 14.09 crore during this period. This has come out in a report prepared by Gujarat Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms. 

These donations are above Rs 20,000. According to Pankti Jog of GEW, as per Section 29C of Representation of People Act, 1951, political parties need to submit details of contributions received in excess of Rs 20,000 from any person or a company to the ECI annually in order to claim tax exemption. 

From all over the country, BJP  received donation of Rs 801.68 crore while Congress got Rs 242.78 crore. The NCP received Rs 56.157 from all over the country but from Gujarat, it got just Rs 3 crore. 

On sectoral basis, the BJP has received 71.35 crore from corporate and business houses of Gujarat, which forms 88.69 per cent of its total donation from Gujarat. The Congress on the other hand has got Rs 13.57 crore from the corporate and business houses, which forms 96.31 per cent of its total donation from Gujarat.
