The ongoing political slugfest around the surgical strike took an ugly turn on Saturday after a BJP MP made a controversial remark questioning Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s parentage.

Babu Lal, BJP MP from Fatehpur Sikri in Uttar Pradesh, hit out at those who were asking proof of the surgical strike carried out by the army across the Line of Control. He said that people asking for proof or questioning the army should be sent to either Pakistan or Dubai.

“What proof is Rahul Gandhi asking for? He himself doesn’t have proof who his father is,” Babu Lal said in his comment. Babu Lal, who had served as minister in the Uttar Pradesh government in 2007, had courted controversy earlier also by making objectionable comments.

Babu Lal's comments are likely to further aggravate the political slugfest over the LoC operation.

Referring to the stray comments made by some of his partymen, BJP chief Amit Shah had on Friday said they were not the view of the party.

Meanwhile, a complaint was filed against Rahul Gandhi in Chandauli court in Uttar Pradesh over his 'khoon ki dalali' comment against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The battle had escalated between Congress and the BJP after Rahul Gandhi hit out at Modi saying the prime minister was hiding behind the blood of soldiers. Amit Shah accused Rahul of crossing all limits, while Congress leader Kapil Sibal raked up Shah’s past when he was in  jail.
