BJP MLA Suresh Rana, who is the candidate for the party in Uttar Pradesh's Thana Bhawan, came into the eye of the storm after he promised curfew in the Muslim-dominated Kairana, Moradabad and Deoband areas of Uttar Pradesh if he wins.

Kairana had recently hit the headlines for its alleged exodus of Hindu community. The issue had also figured in the saffron party's manifesto; the BJP had claimed that it would prevent all communal exodus in the future.
