A local BJP leader from Gujarat capital Gandhingar was arrested on Tuesday on charges of molesting a 13-year-old girl onboard an Indigo flight.
Ashok Makwana, 41, is the vice president of the BJP's Gandhinagar unit. The incident reportedly took place on May 27 on an Indigo flight from Goa to Ahmedabad.
He has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act.
Parents of the minor girl told the police in the complaint that the person seated next to her molested her.
On gathering the details, the police found that the seat next to the girl was booked in the name of Makwana's friend and it appears that the BJP leader and his friend exchanged the seats once the flight took off.
State BJP spokesperson Bharat Pandya could not be contacted for his reaction.
