West Bengal BJP has asked the state government to exhume the body of MP Sultan Ahmed and send it for postmortem. Ahmed died on last Sunday at his home after suffering severe heart attack. He was declared brought dead at a private hospital at around 12.15 pm. Postmortem was not conducted and his body was buried on the same day.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has blamed the central government for the death of Ahmed, who was a prominent Muslim leader of West Bengal.
“He was chased by CBI in Narada case. Even on the day he died CBI sent him a notice. He died after that,” an angry Mamata told reporters after visiting Ahmed’s house.
The BJP said that the normal procedure when a person is declared brought dead at the hospital is to send the body for postmortem. “But in Ahmed’s case it was not done. I dare the West Bengal government to exhume his body and send it for postmortem. Lot of things would be unraveled,” said Dilip Ghosh, BJP president in West Bengal.
Ghosh said that Ahmed was pressured by his own party as he had divulged too much information to the CBI regarding the Narada sting operation and about the accused in the case.
“He was hounded by the Trinamool leaders for speaking up. Such a big leader in the state died in such a situation but there is no murmur. There were no tears in the eyes of the leaders of his party,”said Ghosh.
A former Union minister and a standing MP, state government has not ordered any probe into the death of Ahmed. Also, there was no state mourning. According to sources in CBI, Ahmed had admitted to taking money for the party. He was recently removed from the chairmanship of the West Bengal minority and financial development corporation.
The BJP accused Mamata government of gross negligence in the matter.
Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee told her party leaders not to be tensed and asked them to appear before the CBI or ED.
“Go and meet the investigators. Don’t be tensed or depressed,” she told the leaders.
Following the assurance, on Tuesday, MP Prasun Banerjee visited the CBI office in Kolkata for interrogation. Sougata Roy also visited CBI office on Wednesday morning for several hours of interrogation. He is still being interrogated.
Asked about Ghosh’s remarks, Trinamool Congress Secretary General Partha Chatterjee called the BJP president “mad”. “He is mad. He always dreams about Saradha and Narada. I cannot comment on his remarks,” said Chatterjee.
