Soon, the IT city Bengaluru might house the new US consulate.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj indicated that country's IT capital, with "its strong economic and social links with the US, will also be considered" as a possible location for the new US consulate.

The final decision will be taken by the US.

"During Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the US last June, the two countries had committed to open additional consulates in each other's country. It was agreed that India will open a new Consulate in Seattle and the United States will open a new consulate at a mutually agreed location in India," said the minister in her reply to a letter (dated July 18, 2016) by Karnataka BJP President B.S. Yeddyurappa.
