Ayodhya gears up for grand Diwali celebrations

Under the Yogi regime, the city of Ayodhya will observe a memorable Diwali this year. The state government has been meticulously planning and preparing for the event for the last couple of weeks and senior BJP leaders and UP governor Ram Naik have been taking a stock of the situation.

The main function will be at ‘Ram Ki Padi’ on the occasion of ‘Choti Diwali’, when 1,71, 000 earthen lamps will be lit. Avaneesh Awasthi, principal secretary, tourism had submitted a presentation to governor Naik. The governor said facilities will be provided to develop Ayodhya into a smart tourist spot.

According to Awasthi there would be a heritage walk, symbolic anointment of Lord Rama, a religious march and large scale ‘aarti’ in Ram Katha park to make the entire function scintillating.

Chief minister Yogi Adityanath and governor Naik will dedicate various development schemes to people of Ayodhya, including new electricity connections and PM housing scheme.

Both CM and governor will perform puja on the bank of river Saryu. Adityanath has also made a proposal to the governor to build a grand statue of Lord Ram on the banks of the Saryu river

Awasthi said for the consolidated development of Ayodhya , the state had asked for Rs 195 crore from the Centre out of which Rs 133 crore have been sanctioned.

Bhaskar Das, a local of Ayodhya said that in the name of religion previous governments have only exploited Ayodhya and virtually did nothing for its development. “BJP government's move to develop Ayodhya is really appreciable,” he said.
