At least 17 people, including a six-month-old baby, were killed when a bus hit two cars on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway early on Sunday morning and fell into a 20-foot-ditch, reports said.

More than 35 people have been injured in the mishap that took place at around 5:30am. The condition of 14 of them is said to be critical. It is not immediately know what caused the accident, but reports said the two cars—an Innova and a Swift Dezire—were parked on the roadside, when the bus rammed into them.

The driver of the Swift was reportedly changing one of its tyres and the driver of the Innova was helping him.

The bus was headed to Mumbai and, according to the State Highway Control, the accident occurred near Shendug curve on the Pune-Mumbai arm of the E-Way.

The injured have been rushed to the MGM Hospital in and Ashtavinayak hospital. Police have ordered a probe into the matter.
