Police have recovered arms believed to be hidden by criminals from a crematorium in Purulia in West Bengal on Saturday. Police recovered a rocket launcher, a rocket, an AK47 and a carbine from inside a crematorium.

Police said they had arrested two criminals, Ashok Pramanik and Jalaluddin Sheikh, a week back. The arms were recovered after criminals were interrogated.

Almost 25 years back, a huge cache of arms, which were meant for supply to terror groups, were recovered from Purulia after it were dropped from a plane.

Incidentally, only a week back Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had visited Purulia to hold administrative meetings.

Purulia used to be a stronghold for Maoists and the chief minister is said to be on their hit list.

Senior police officials said they were investigating whether the arms recovered were part of a consignment for terrorists. "We are investigating to find out whether the accused belong to any ultra group," said Rupesh Chandra, SP, Purulia.
