The Andhra Pradesh government signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indo-UK Institute of Health (IUIH) to build a mega hospital in Amaravati, the proposed capital city of the state.
The MoU was signed on Friday during the meeting of a delegation from the United Kingdom with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Visakhapatnam.
The 1,000-bed hospital will be built at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore. A medical college, related departments, research and training institutions will also be set up in affiliation with the hospital. The state government has offered to allot 100 acres for the project.
The IUIH is establishing 11 hospitals in India for which an MoU had been signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Britain last year.
“We are setting up 11 mega medical units at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore in 11 cities across India and this mega hospital in Amaravati will be completed in 36 months," IUIH chairman Mike Parker said.
Speaking on the occasion, Chandrababu Naidu said that AP would emerge as a global healthcare destination and stressed on making medical services available to common people at reasonable prices. "I want to make Amaravati a mega health care city that provides affordable medical services to all," he said.
Naidu also added that apart from world-class infrastructure, he wanted to make Amaravati an education and medical hub.
