Roundup: Naidu's US trip, Jagan-PM bonhomie and more

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu returned from the US, where he had gone for 'wealth generation.' Naidu explained at a press meet that his aim to develop the state as a knowledge hub got a positive push during the US tour. But he could not control his emotions and showered his ire on YSR Congress president and opposition leader Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy for allegedly sending emails to the United States of America police against him.

Fake mails were sent to the American police to arrest Naidu, when he was there on official visit to invite the investors to invest in the state. Naidu was more worried that the AP state's image was damaged on the global platform.

Naidu also criticised Jagan for giving his unconditional support to the BJP for the Presidential elections. Jaganmohan Reddy apparently gets an appointment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi whenever he visits Delhi and this must have bothered Naidu, for he has to wait before his request is taken up. Jagan is said to have spent 40 minutes with the PM and this is creating all kinds of speculation in the political circle of Andhra Pradesh, with rumours floating that the BJP will break its ties with Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and make a new alliance with YSRCP for the 2019 elections.

The BJP is non-existent in AP and the party members feel that the ruling party is showing “attitude” towards them.

While there is no political logic in the argument and elections are still far away, that it has rattled the TDP so much is strange. The TDP has no strong opposition in AP, and the BJP has absolutely no base in the residual state. If at all there can be some tough fights, for the TDP, to bring their tension to a public space, seems a bit too much. Meanwhile, adding to the whole 'Jagan's Delhi visit', there is another mystery to be solved. Apparently Naidu, too, visited Delhi unannounced and was totally incommunicado for whole six hours. But, it is said, that he met a few people, presumably to find out what conspired between Jagan and the PM.

With all this happening on his return, there was no scope for Naidu to crow over his achievements during the US trip. He seems to have covered a lot of areas and met a number of people for his state. Apparently he interacted with as many as 55 Telugu organizations in America. He also met a number of CEOs of various multi national companies (MNCs) there. Naidu was happy that he managed to get good support in two sectors—power and agriculture. He said that while in the 90s when he was CM of a united Andhra Pradesh, he was promoting the IT industry, he now wanted to develop the residual state of Andhra Pradesh as knowledge society and information technology hub.

Meanwhile, when he was in the US, Naidu had heard that his colleague and cabinet minister P. Narayana was bereaved, having lost his son to a fatal accident in Hyderabad.

The other embarrassing news was when the CBI conducted multiple raids against TDP MLC Vakati Narayana Reddy. Naidu suspended the businessman-politician. "Our MLC has been accused of fraud and CBI is probing the case, so we are suspending him from party with immediate effect. Based on the conclusion of the inquiry, we will take further decision," Naidu said.
