The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has begun investigation into an alleged extortion call received by R.S. Sodhi, managing director of Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation from gangster Ravi Pujari’s gang. GCMMF sells products under the brand name Amul.
According to available information, a few days back, a person claiming to be member of Pujari gang called up Sodhi asking for Rs 25 crore as protection money and warned him of consequences if he failed to give the amount.
Minister of state for home Rajni Patel said that the complaint has been taken seriously and the crime branch is investigating.
Sodhi is believed to have been called from an international number.
The Ahmedabad Crime Branch is already investigating a couple of cases of extortion calls made by the Pujari gang to some people in the past in Gujarat.
Sodhi, who is based in Anand, could not be reached for his reaction.
