Amit Shah has sought a detailed report about the heckling of BJP state President Dilip Ghosh in Darjeeling. Ghosh was heckled and his party workers were beaten up by the Gorkha agitators who are close to estranged GJM leader Binay Tamang. Shah has asked a group of BJP leaders to visit West Bengal to assess the situation and submit a report to him.

“We will never tolerate any such attack on our leaders any where in the country. We will take this very seriously,” said a senior BJP leader in Delhi.

Ghosh was manhandled and his companions were beaten up when he was about to address a crowd. Tamang supporters said there was no permission given to the auditorium where Ghosh was supposed to address the crowd.

Many BJP members were injured due to the assault by Gorkha agitators. Ghosh informed BJP leadership in Delhi and Amit Shah has reportedly spoken to Home Minister Rajnath Singh as well. It was alleged that some of the youths even slapped Ghosh.

Ghosh said, “It’s clearly the handiwork of the Trinamool Congress. There was no police forces deployed for our security.”

Hours after the assault, the union government had sent central police forces to give security to Ghosh. A strong security force has been in place around the hotel in Darjeeling where Ghosh and other leaders of the state are staying.

S S Alhuwalia, Darjeeling MP and union minister, blamed both the Trinamool Congress and Binay Tamang. “We have sought a report from the state leadership,” he said.

Meanwhile BJP workers hit the street protesting the attack on Ghosh. Several roads in Kolkata were blocked in protest. BJP has also announced a week long agitation starting from tomorrow in West Bengal.

Trinamool Congress reacted sharply to the allegation. “Why was Ghosh blaming us? He went to Darjeeling to create problem. Central government wants to destablise the hills of West Bengal,” said secretary general of Trinamool Congress and Minister for Education, Partha Chatterjee.
