Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley visited the Apollo hospital in Chennai where Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa has been undergoing treatment for nearly three weeks.
Both the leaders spent nearly 20 minutes at the hospital. However it is not known whether they met Jyalalithaa.
The 68-year-old chief minister was hospitalised on September 22 after she complained of fever and dehydration. The doctors later said she needed a longer stay at the hospital as she was suffering from infection and put her on respiratory support.
In the last bulletin issued on Monday, the hospital said she continued to be under treatment and was being constantly monitored by intensivists and other consultants in the expert panel, while respiratory support, antibiotics, nutrition, supportive therapy and passive physiotherapy were being given to her.
Meanwhile, AIADMK party workers and Amma loyalists continued to perform special poojas and prayers across the state. Tamil Nadu Music and Fine Arts Society organised a special prayer event at the famous Meenakshi Sundareswarar temple in Madurai, where 108 veenas were played by artists.
Yagnas were conducted at Namakkal and Nilgiri, while special prayers were held at churches in Kumbakonam, Dindigul and Tiruvallur.
