BORDER TENSION

Amid border tension, humanitarian gesture by BSF

In yet another gesture of India's magnanimity, the Border Security Force (BSF) handed over a Pakistani national—15-year-old Razak, son of Iqbal Mai and a resident of Bizani Talwindi—after he inadvertently crossed the international border.

Razak was spotted on Friday by BSF personnel at the border outpost of Sowar Wali in Abohar district where he was apprehended. He had crossed the international boundary inadvertently and entered Indian territory.

The BSF, disregarding the high border tension with their Pakistani counterparts, did not think twice before contacting the Pakistan Rangers next day. Razak was re-united with his family in 24 hours, breaking ice between the security forces on the border, while displaying the continuing friendly people-to-people contact between the two neighbouring countries.

On April 29 , the Rangers were contacted and the apprehended Pakistani national was handed over to them at about 8.45am on humanitarian grounds.

So far this year, as many as seven Pakistani nationals, including Razak, have inadvertently crossed the border and have been handed over to Pakistan Rangers by BSF deployed on the Punjab Frontier.
