Passes resolution to make Jayalalithaa permanent general secretary

The united AIADMK General Council today passed a resolution to remove Sasikala as the interim general secretary. It was also decided that late Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa will remain the permanent general secretary of the party.

In another resolution, the party also termed T.T.V. Dhinakaran's appointment to the party post as "null and void". A total of 10 such resolutions were passed by the party during the AIADMK General Council meeting, which is underway in Chennai.

Chief Minister K Palaniswami and his Deputy O. Pannerselvam are among those who were present at today's meeting of the decision-making body, the first since Jayalalithaa's death last year.

It is also the first after the unification of the two camps led by the chief minister and Panneerselvam.

Earlier, a cloud of uncertainty had hung over today's meeting as the Dhinakaran faction had moved the Madras High Court seeking a stay on it.

The court had upheld an order of a single judge dismissing a plea to stay the AIADMK general council and executive committee meeting convened by Palaniswami-led faction.
