The Blue Whale game has been banned in Gujarat. The notification was issued by the state home department hours after Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said on Tuesday that the state would ban the game.

Following the notification, instructions were issued to schools and teachers were asked to keep a vigil on students. They were asked to observe any student displaying any abnormal behaviour. Schools, colleges and universities have been asked to create awareness on the issue.

The chief minister said that to stop people from ending their lives, the government would bring an ordinance, if needed.

Last week, a 20-year-old boy from North Gujarat had ended his life by jumping into the river Sabarmati in Ahmedabad. Though there have been conflicting reports that the boy was suffering from cancer, the police is probing the Blue Whale game angle as well. The boy had uploaded a video on Facebook and had mentioned the Blue Whale game in it.

The police pointed out that they did not find any injury marks on his body. They said that before reaching the last stage of the game, the person is asked to inflict injuries on himself/herself.
