Racism rears its ugly head again in Bengaluru

India Alleged Assault (File) Defending their action, the residents said they beat up Alex in the wake of increased incidents of theft involving African nationals

An Ivory-Coast national was beaten up in Bengaluru after he allegedly tried to enter a house in the city on Sunday.

According to media reports, the victim, identified as Caulibaly alias Alex (30), is pursuing a computer course and has been staying in the city for the past 18 months.

On Sunday night, the residents in Hennur Bande area saw the victim roaming around in the area in an inebriated condition and questioned him as to what he was doing there. When he failed to answer, they thrashed him before calling the cops.

It was only a few months ago that an angry mob in the city assaulted, stripped and paraded naked a Tanzanian girl after a Sudanese man ran over a woman.

Defending their action, the residents said they beat up Alex in the wake of increased incidents of theft involving African nationals.

The police said when they took him to the hospital, the victim could only say he was attacked by the mob but could not provide much details about himself as he was intoxicated.
