Shiv Sainiks burnt an effigy of Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali in Varanasi on Monday.

The ghazal singer is likely to perform at the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple during the inaugural day of an annual music concert beginning at Varanasi on April 26.

Ali will be arriving here to participate in the concert at 8 pm.

The singer has been invited to the concert by the temple administration despite the fact that a pandemonium had broken out last year after he performed his famous ghazal ‘Hungama Kyon Hai Barpa Thodi Si Jo Pee Li Hai’.

Shiv Sena workers had on Friday staged a protest here against the Pakistani ghazal singer.

Holding placards, the protesters took to the streets and raised slogans against Ghulam Ali.

“The Shiv Sena is opposed to Pakistani artistes coming to India. The people, who are business-concerned, are calling these artistes for their motives. We will attack all artistes if they come. We will tear all posters of him," he added.

Earlier, the Shiv Sena had forced the organisers to cancel Ghulam Ali’s performance in Mumbai, which was ultimately shifted to Kolkata under protection of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
