Over 10 per cent of the total voters cast their ballots in Puducherry where polling is under way on Monday to elect the 30-member assembly, said the Election Commission.

At 9.00 am, just over 10 per cent of over 9.4 lakh voters have cast their votes.

Polling in Puducherry began at 7.00 am and will end at 6.00 pm.

However the rains in Karaikal region has impacted the polling, an EC official told IANS.

A total of 344 candidates are in the fray.

The main fight is between the Congress-DMK combine and the ruling All India NR Congress (AINRC).

The AIADMK-the ruling party in Tamil Nadu, is contesting alone in Puducherry.
